Overview The DeskTop VF 28.8 / 33.6 is a member of GDC's family of high-speed, high performance V34 modems. Ideal for remote office locations, it is available in a dial-only version for high-speed switched network connectivity or in an ADR (Auto Dial Restoral) version for private line access with automatic dial restoral. The DeskTop VF 28.8 / 33.6 transmits synchronously or asynchronously at speeds up to 33.6 Kbps. With advanced compression techniques, it can achieve an effective throughput of up to 64 Kbps in synchronous and 128 Kbps in asynchronous applications.

Versatility The DeskTop VF 28.8 / 33.6 supports V34 and slower standard speeds, as well as FAX modes in one compact desktop unit. It is compatible with GDC's rackmount, high density SpectraComm VF 28.8 / 33.6 modems, delivering the perfect solution for a wide variety of enterprise applications. Remote DeskTop units can also be paired with SpectraComm 5034 Dual Data Set Emulators (DSEs) in a central T1 groomed access service environment.

Superior Performance The DeskTop VF 28.8 / 33.6 hardware/software platform includes a powerful Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that ensures maximum efficiency and reliability. A combination of V42, MNP-4 and Trellis coding for error detection and correction promotes data integrity over the network. An Autorate Renegotiation capability dynamically adjusts operating rates to compensate for switched network line impairments. The result is superior performance, even over PSTN circuits, which typically vary in quality. You can use the public network to support high-speed applications-like remote LAN access-that in the past would have required more reliable, but often less economical, dedicated links.

Effortless Upgrades The DeskTop VF 28.8 / 33.6 is completely software definable. Flash memory ensures that upgrades can be done locally, from another location, or downloaded from a central site, as your needs and new developments in modem technology dictate.

Multi-Level Security The DeskTop VF 28.8 / 33.6 provides multiple layers of security, including password protection and fixed and roving call back. Steadfast Security' protects critical financial, governmental, or company-sensitive applications via a password embedded within the handshake sequence and mandatory callback feature.

Complete Manageability The DeskTop V E 28.8 / 33.6 features the comprehensive yet intuitive management that is a must for unattended remote sites. Configuration, optioning and dialing can be accomplished via an interactive, user-friendly command panel with a 2-line LCD and a 12-button keypad. Simplified, menu-driven selections walk the user through a variety of essential communications tasks and network status displays. Support for "AT" and V25 his setup and dialing allow flow control, FAX/Data modes and other functions to be customized for each application. Front panel LED indicators report call status, and a full range of diagnostics can be performed locally or from a remote location.

In addition, the DeskTop VF 28.8 can be managed using GDC's HP OpenView-based TEAM V34 application software. TEAM' provides central site configuration and testing of remote DeskTop VF 28.8 / 33.6s using an intuitive graphical user interface.
